Hepadnavirus Inactivated by Electrolyzed Acid Water

Japanese researchers have discovered that treatment with electrolyzed water can completely block the infectivity of duck hepatitis B virus (DHBV).

In the September issue of the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, Dr. Masami Tagawa from Chiba University in Osaka, and colleagues there and elsewhere in Japan, explain that although glutaraldehyde is used for cleaning endoscopes, it has irritant properties and a safe alternative is required.
